Jedi meditations

The following meditation techniques are designed to be used by themselves or more effectively with the meditation practice outlined here.

The goal of these meditations is to enhance awareness and energy levels.

Dan Tein Breathing - The Basic Jedi Meditation Technique

This is the breathing technique that is the first step to learning Qigong and is the foundation of all Qigong practices.

Imagine as if you can breath air into your belly. In other words, slowly expand your belly while breathing in. This will make it seem as if you are breathing into your belly when actually you are taking more air into your lower lungs which increases your oxygen levels and stimulate the energy center in your stomach. This energy center is known as the ‘Dan Tein’ in Qigong.

Practice this technique regularly. Breathing in till your lungs are almost full and breathing out till almost empty. Always expand your belly a little ahead of your inhale creating the impression that the stomach is pulling in the air with its expansion. Then press your stomach in blowing the air out. Always use a slow breathing pattern taking several seconds for each inhale and exhale – but keep the inhale and exhale time amount the same i.e. 4 second in and out or 5 seconds in and out etc.

‘Force’ Breathing

The first technique is to combine a visualization with the basic qigong breathing technique.

While doing the Dan Tien breathing technique visualize energy all around you as a golden light. On each inhale breath in the visualized golden light and exhale stress or anything you may perceive as ‘darkness’.

Do this breathing technique – slow and steady – for 5 – 10 minutes to properly experience it. 3 times a day for a month to increase your energy levels.

This will also expand your lungs and bring more oxygemnto your body. Read more about breathing here.

Feeling energy

This technique is perfect after a good breathing exercise as the breathing increases your energy level and sensitivity to energy.

First rub your hands together vigorously for 30 – 60 seconds. Keeping the hands a few inches apart use the fingers of one hand to stroke the palm of your other hand.

Don’t touch your palms. Instead, imagine as if your fingers are longer by about 3-4 inches and stroke your palm with the end of those imaginary fingers.

Most people can feel the energy move across their palms the very first time they do this method. If you did feel something across your palms then congratulations, you just felt your own energy field. Now practice with others.

Awareness Enhancement

This technique can be used at anytime. While sitting, walking or standing. The goal is to expand your awareness to include your surroundings while paying attention to the inhale and exhale of your breathing.

Begin by becoming aware of your breath. Next expand this awareness so you can feel your skin and the cloths on your body.

Next become aware of your surroundings, include trees, streets and buildings.

Finally, become aware of the dome of the sky above you and the hoizon (where land meets sky) in the distrance.

Become aware of the horizon in all directions all the while maintaining awareness on your breathing.

Focusing on the breathing helps with concentration while the rest of the exercise helps you expand your senses outwards.

Practice these techniques regularly.
